Chess Garage Open the board

Annotate your chess Games the way a book prints them.

Chess Garage is a workbench in the browser for entering, annotating and studying chess Games: Variations set in the text, Games merged into one, an Opening Explorer and an engine beside the board.

What it does

Entering, annotating and engine analysis work without an account. Collections, Merge and the Opening Explorer are there once you sign in.

Enter and annotate Games

Play moves on the board or type them. Add comments, move and position symbols, arrows and coloured squares, and edit the Game’s header: players, event, date and result.

The workbench: a board with arrows and highlighted squares beside an annotated Game with comments and move symbols.

Variations

Enter another move at any point and it branches off as a Variation, set in the text as its own indented paragraph. Promote a Variation, reorder them, or delete one.

A Game’s moves with nested Variations, each indented under the move it replaces.

Merge

Merge saved Games that start from the same position into one new Game. Each joins where it first departs from the others, as a Variation labelled with its players, event, year and result. The Games you merge stay as they were.

A merged Game: the other Games join it as Variations, each labelled with its players, event, year and result.

Collections

Save your Games in Collections, tag them, and find them again by player, event or Tag. Import and export them as PGN.

The Library: Collections on the left, and a Collection’s Games in a table with their players, result, event and date.

Opening Explorer

For any position, see what was played in a Reference Database: how often each move was played, how it scored, the players’ average rating, and the Games themselves.

The Opening Explorer: the moves played from a position with their number of Games, score, performance and average rating.

Engine analysis

Stockfish runs in your browser and shows up to five lines with their Evaluations. Add a line to the Game, or let a Blunder Check mark the errors in a whole Game.

The Engine’s three best lines for a position, each with its Evaluation, beside the board and its evaluation bar.
